Does anyone know why this angel never raises it's dorsal fin?

I've heard of this happening if they were being raised in tanks that were too small.

Otherwise no idea. Pretty fish though!!

That's what I was thinking too. I had him in a 30 gallon for a while and then migrated him to a 40 gallon long. Reminds me of an Orca doing the same thing when kept in captivity.

IME

either cramped quarters or possible damage when young

actually fairly common

(sometimes attributed to genetic abnormalities )

if the fin is shaped like this or was caused by damage from cramped quarters.. it prob will never go fully upright.

either way it's a nice looking veil

If it's because of cramped quarters, could it possibly change and start raising it's fine now that it's in a larger tank?

How many Angels do you have together?
I ask that because I have 10 in a 50 hex right now and once in a while they do that. They seem to fold their dorsals willingly! It seems like its attributed to mood also!

I have 6 in a 40 long. there is also a single GBR and 2 L-144's.

I just hope it's not a permanent thing. I want it to be able to flex when it wants/needs. :)

Where'd you get that angel? It's gorgeous. :) And exactly what I've been wanting!

I got it from someone here on AC. The screen name escapes me at the moment. I bought 2 as Double Dark Super Veils, but one is a Super veil Dark and the other is a double dark veil.
