Hi there i've now been considering keeping a betta sorority.
i have a 75 gallon planted tank

already now contain:
8-10 rummmynose tetra
6-12 cardinal tetra

how many female bettas should i keep? with the current stock i can do a maximum of 8 whats the best number?
also looking to have a clean up crew would they be ok with Japonica amano shrimp?
thanks,

At least four, IMO, for a sorority. You have plenty of room so it shouldn't be an issue anyways if you want to go up to 8...I would make sure to get them all at the same time though, if possible.
i absolutely will get them all at the same time, are halfmoon female bettas any different than regular bettas? in terms of keeping a sorrotiy cld they be mixed?

I'm not sure as I have never kept halfmoons...I do know that some people have had issues mixing regulars with the more aggressive plakats.

then i'm gna keep only regular female betta splendens they have the best chance at success correct??

I agree with jpappy on getting them at the same time. I added a third female in my 30 gallon to two that I got at the same time and it took a couple of weeks for her to settle in since the other two harrassed her quite a bit. Luckily the tank is heavily planted so she was able to find hiding places. Now all three get along just fine.

My females are the basic bettas - nothing fancy.

I keep 6 females and 3 corys in a 10 gal. When I've had to replace any, I make sure I do it after I've cleaned and rearranged their tank, and keep the light off for a while. Usually don't have any problems.

Yeah I had a similar issue with my 30 gallon and adding more afterwards from a different source. I also, for some reason, had issues with my females jumping ship and I have no idea why. I did notice the dominant female pick at the others but it was nothing serious, or so I thought. I didn't have much for floating plants (just some pennywort) so that may be something else to consider for them.

Where did you guys purchase your betta splendens? i mean petco seems to have a good return policy butt..lol I'm not completely comfortable with ordering online

Most of the LFS in my area carry female bettas on a regular basis. If yours does not I would first ask if they can special order any for you before looking online. A lot of bettas are sold on aquabid, I believe.
