My friend manages the pet dept at a local walmart, I went in today to pick up a few things and wandered over to the fish tanks and saw the 4 nicest pearlscale goldie babies. Well I bought 2 goldfish there a while back that didnt make it so today she asked if I wanted those 4 to make up for the 2 that died several months ago and of couse I said yes. So I brought them home floated for 1 hr then released and they seem to like the new tank its a 55G they are about 1 1/2 inches long so they have alot of growing to do before they get moved into a empty 125G I have been wanting an excuse to set up LOL
I love the peal scale they just have this unique look about them they are gold and white. attached is a pic if you dont know what they look like.

Cool score - I saw these and really wanted this one cute black baby, looked like a ping pong ball!

Ugh, I have never heard (or payed attention) to pearlscales before and they don't carry them at my WM. I can't participate in the poll but darnit, I've got to find a place around here that carries those so I can see them in person. Interestingly odd looking fish. I think I might like them!
Hope to see more pics soon.

Wow Rod those are very cool looking goldies!!! :dance2: And even better that you got them for free!!! :grinyes: I can't partake in your poll because I've never had any of these fish. Hope all goes well with them for you--can't wait to see more photos!!

Hey:)

I actually breed pearlscale goldfish, and I find them easy to look after. They're really no different to any other goldfish except for their neat scales.

The only thing to look out for is if you have them with other 'breeds' of goldfish. I have found that the pearlscales get chased around the tank a bit by other goldfish such as fantails, because the fantails believe the pearlscales are full of eggs!

Wow i love pearlscales also called here egg fish. It is not as hard to keep as most people think. but it is a lovely fish to keep and see.

Really awesome score, Rod! Knowing how much you like goldfish, it couldn't have happened to someone nicer or who would appreciate them more.

My local big box store got in a handful of them last week, and I was sorely tempted. Let us know how it goes!

Do you know what kind of pearlscale they are? I know that Tikus get to be like golfballs, but others are pretty much regular goldfish shape with the pearlescent scales.

well not a good update 3 have died and 1 is still alive but not looking really well but he is still eating so maybe he will make it. i have all types of goldfish but these are the hardest ones for me to keep alive for some reason. they were very small when i got them im not sure if that is the problem but i have never had any of my other goldies die and my water and all that is fine. well if this last one dies i am not going to get anymore pearlscales. these are the golf ball type.

Any signs of fluke infestation? I learned the hard way to immediately treat all incoming goldfish for flukes when they come into QT. I wonder if that could be the issue with the pearlscales.

Anyway, Rod, I am sorry that you lost the fish :(
