This family across the street is moving out and in their garage they have this 100-120 Gallon glass tank up for sale for $100. Just the tank itself, nothing else. I was in a hurry so I took a quick look and in one of the corners where the glass panels meet, a 1/4 of a inch away from the silicone seal, was a chip. I was excited until I saw that.

I know I know, its pointless without pictures. I will try to get some tomorrow afternoon. Should I ask them to do a water test? Also, the family will completely move out this Friday...I wish I knew sooner :nilly:

I forgot to add, they told me the tank was previously used for fish before they bought it. They had a snake in there for a few months until they broke it down.

If the chip is outside, you can try to repair it. If it is inside, I don't know what you can use that would be safe for the fish. I would ask them to do a water test to see if you would have to repair anything else, like the silicone. Then, since there is a chip, I would ask for a price reduction simply to cover the cost of repairing it. If they are moving Friday, they probably want a quick sale. Offer 50-75 bucks, if they say no, it isn't worth it. Just my opinion!!!

I would offer 40 to 50. If it holds water then you get a great deal(and they get rid of the tank). If it doesn't post it on CL and you should come close to breaking even. A picture would help with determining if it is worth the risk.

with all the pressure thats going to be on the glass 24/7 i dont know!!!!! i am a bit sceptical!!!! sorry if that makes you doubt....... i have repaired a 30l but the bottom glass was broken/cracked but for something this big not comfortable maybe someone who has done a fix will chime in...

depending on how big, and the location of the chip, its entirely possible to fix it.

A friend recently even took glass panels from a tank, and built a plywood tank. and i would still ask for a water test. and yes, i would offer between 75 and 100 for it.

SORRY FOR KEEPING YOU GUYS WAITING!

Here are the pics:

So it turns out that tank size is about 120Gallon - 72 x 16 x 24
Im thinking about not getting the tank now.

Sorry for rushing but I was wondering what do you guys and gals think?

the chip would have been no big deal, the crack, would worry me. i would offer 50 bucks... no more... and you can still do a really reasonable plywoood build with the good glass panes!

Is the pane of glass that is cracked structural? looks more like a lid or something to hold a heat lamp for the snake they had in it to me.
