Help! My Female Bettas Are HUGE!

Hmm, I didn't think one cube for 5 girls would be too much. I'll try feeding them every other day. One of my males is blowing a bubblenest like crazy, so I'll see if putting a female in a divided tank with the male will make her drop eggs. I can't make a video, after trying to get some still shots I used up the last of my battery. Hopefully I can get them a little slimmer soon. Do you think they'll grow much more in length? I figured around one inch they were done growing, but since they're now 2 inches I'm not so sure!

I think females can hit 2" but not much more... I'd say you could just feed half a cube daily and they'll be fine. You're feeding them a variety, or just bloodworms?

Females don't drop eggs... unless you meant that she'll develop eggs if you put them near each other? :)

I've read a few places that if you put them in a divided tank where they can see each other she'll develop eggs, then if you wait she'll release eggs without getting them fertilized. Perhaps this information is incorrect? All of them state the female eats them afterwards, so it sounded plausible...

Huh, well that does make sense... otherwise what would she do with eggs in her belly & no males? :p: I guess I figured her body re-absorbed them or something. But your explanation makes sense, too... why should she have to wait to be embraced by a male to let go of her eggs?

A female full of eggs & who gets excited by the appearance of a male will spit out hundred of eggs & consume them. I've witnessed this a few times when I was breeding. But egg laiden females can cause problems, so fasting them 2 or 3 days at a time & cutting down on their food intake would help with that.

After putting one of my girls in the divided with the male, they both were going nuts trying to get to each other, the male's side was covered completely in bubblenest. I ended up taking the divider out, and now I have eggs :) I'm super excited!

Tons of jars and extra tanks. Although it doesn't look like a huge batch of eggs, I guess we'll find out in a few days!

and lets hope your male is a good daddy for those first few days too! keeping my finners crossed!
