Is there something besides a pleco that will eat food off the bottom of the tank or that's stuck in the filter that my Betta doesn't get? I have either a 1 or 2 gallon aquarium. I'm thinking it's a 1 gallon. It's one of the mini bow aquariums with the filter.

Your fully stocked. If there is food sitting on the bottom, and getting caught in the filter, don't feed as much.

Fish are friends. If I were you, I would put him in a bigger tank where the occasional scrap of uneaten food is less likely to pollute the tank.

mag floats are great for cleaning the glass but they do nothing for uneaten food. and those little bowfront tanks are usually plastic, not glass, so the mag float would probably scratch the heck out of it.

feed less, and use a piece of airline tubing to suck out any uneaten food a couple hours after feeding.

on a side note, your betta would be much happier in a larger tank. a 2.5, a 5 gallon, or ideally a 10 would be great! and with a 10 you have the option of having a few tankmates, depending on the betta's personality (if he will 'play nice', lol).

hehe I should read more saw a need a tank cleaner thread and went for the mag-float (that one is safe for plastic and acrylic tanks supposedly).

A agree with your plan BFM

i have mag floats myself, and just by looking at how coarse the velcro-like surface is on the half that goes in the tank i'd be very wary of trying to use one on a cheap little plastic tank, especially one with curves (bowfront).

:iagree:

Best way to gauge how much to feed is to remember a betta's stomach is about as big as their eye. Feed once a day or once every other day.

I know they're cute when they're wiggling in front of the glass hoping for another feeding, but they really don't need to eat every day... feeding too often will create issues with water quality AND your betta's health.

yeah i agree with everyone esle. by betta is a spoilt fish and will only eat live foods..i tried everything else from pellets to flakes to frozen and he will still only eat live..i guess im sorta lucky in that i dont have uneaten food lol..
