I have three tanks. Mollies have overtaken all three of them. I am so sick and tired of them that I am taking the lot of them to the fish store. I think this problem probably comes up with many live bearers. I guess I just don't have enough predators to keep them at bay. It would be nice to have one or two, but if one of those is a female then you are assured of having a ton more. And I hate to have a few males with no females.

I tried giving them away but almost no one wanted any.

Does anyone else have a humane method of dealing with molly fry?

find a fish that'll eat them

Out of curiosity, why do you keep mollies in 3 different tanks instead of keeping all the mollies in one tank? As far as the fry go, if they are specific types of mollies then you might be able to get rid of some through the AC marketplace. You could also check with your LFS and even chain stores to see if they want the fry. If you are not a fan of live bearers, then you might want to get rid of the parents also. Other than that, the only way I can suggest is feeding the fry to a fish that will eat them. Good Luck. - Ash

I have the same issue. You will need to A)get a fish that will eat the fry B)get rid of all of 1 sex so they cannot breed C)find someone who wants the fry or D)Get a really large tank and just dump them in it and see what happens. I recommend the feed the fry to another fish option, you just need to find the fish. I heard ciclids will do that.

IM SURE IF YOU OFFERED THEM TO A LFS FOR FREE HE WILL GLADLY ACCEPT THEM.
EVEN THOU HE MAY END UP USING THEM AS FEEDERS, BUT THIS WAY YOU WON'T KNOW....

Just post an ad on Craigslist. I'm sure there's someone with a predatory fish that'll take the fries as free live food on a regular basis.

Personally, livebearers is one of my least-liked fish group.

I'd take them if you were willing to ship

Ah yes, and hence the point of the problem with the Mollies! They started as 2 males and 2 females in my 135 gallon tank. They fry were moved to a 10 gallon tank because "they're so cute and we never had mollies before so let's save some". And then we got another 29 gallon tank for free and put some of the mollies that had outgrown the nursery tank in there. Now they are officially an "infestation". I called one store and they will take them (for free). Not sure they can take all of them.

And I am getting rid of ALL the mollies. I started NOT being a fan of live bearers after getting the Mollies.

Ahh ok..that makes sense. I have Endlers and one molly....a really mean one (long story lol). My endlers over populate like CRAZY, but I got lucky that they sell pretty well. I am glad that you found somewhere to at least take some of them. Hopefully that will help with the infestation. Good luck!:) - Ash
