I went to do a water test today on a 215 gallon glass tank, when my freind said that the stand did not support correctly. The stand has a flat 1/2" wood top that sits in side the frame, so that the trim and edges hang over a bit and are not supported. Should the tank sit on the trim and support just the edges of the tank, or is it safe the way it is set up now? I have read a lot of information and it's very contradicting, just want to know what right for sure.
Any info would be great Thanks a lot.

Hah well in my experience (i have a tank but this is with an old t.v [the old heavy ones]) as long as 90% of the center base is covered it should stand
if you are only missing an inch around the edges i think it would be okay :p

Yea there is definitely less than an inch all around. I was thinking of laying cork board or foam on the edges and also under neath the tank just to give it some leveling support. Also I patched a edge of the tank so I want to make sure its sturdy and completely level. Thanks for the help, maybe I wont have to do to much more to the stand, Ianne.

Is that a frameless tank? Hard to see anything since the pics are so close up....In any case, it should be fully supported IMO.

Better pics in your chipped edge thread...that tank needs full support around the perimeter...

Not only is it bad to have the vertical panels unsupported but using a stand that may not even be deigned to hold the weight, What is that underneath? Looks like a fiberboard dresser. You've come this far, so make sure the stand is also capable of holding and properly supporting the tanks 1 ton weight.

Gee whiz, I wouldn't even try a small tank with the frame unsupported. You're asking for BIG trouble. A 215g is too awesome to risk a glass & water explosion! Don't wimp out on a really sturdy stand.

i would want the whole floor print covered IMO it would be more safe, i would rather keep my water in a tank lol

My experience

I have a perfecto 150 thats been running for 10 years setting on a home made stand, with a 1 inch thick, marine grade plywood (Flat) top.

No Leaks no Runs, No Errors :headbang2:

HANGIN over the edge of a stand is a bad idea get some plywood and lay it on top of the stand so its long enough to make up overhang issue.
