A filter would be nice. IMO you don't need one though. Just siphon out half of the water each week. And if you're in a mosquito infested area, feeding probably won't be a huge problem. They are called mosquitofish for a reason...
Go to a fishing store/****'s type of thing and get a battery powered aerator like the type of thing below and hook it up to a sponge filter? Are there any battery powered pumps/filters? I am pretty much limited to petsmart and petco in my area. Also, how should I set up the pond. Should I have substrate? Do I need live plants? I have never done anything like this before so I am a bit lost.
Water wisteria would be good. I know that they're a top sucker-out-of-water. No idea if they'd survive the cold, but they populate fast so you could take a few in for the winter. Water wisteria can be found at PetSmart in those little plant tubes. They're called something different though, not sure what.Right now I am leaning towards anacharis because it is easy to grow, it floats, and it sucks stuff out of the water. Are there any better options? Also, can anacharis spend winter outside?
