Breeding mosquito fish

A filter would be nice. IMO you don't need one though. Just siphon out half of the water each week. And if you're in a mosquito infested area, feeding probably won't be a huge problem. They are called mosquitofish for a reason...

Are there any battery powered pumps/filters? I am pretty much limited to petsmart and petco in my area. Also, how should I set up the pond. Should I have substrate? Do I need live plants? I have never done anything like this before so I am a bit lost.

Anybody? Also, I am thinking of putting some plants in there to help clean the water a bit. What would be a some good choices? Right now I am looking at Anacharis or Hornwort. Any others? They have to be hardy and also need to be able to stand cold.

maybe frogbit or water duckweed, floating plants that grow like weeds and suck stuff out of the water...they will grow so fast with direct sunlight youll have to thin then every month ^_^, if its in the sun than no lights needed, they will help the fish as well giving them cover.

Right now I am leaning towards anacharis because it is easy to grow, it floats, and it sucks stuff out of the water. Are there any better options? Also, can anacharis spend winter outside?

Go to a fishing store/****'s type of thing and get a battery powered aerator like the type of thing below and hook it up to a sponge filter?

Water wisteria would be good. I know that they're a top sucker-out-of-water. No idea if they'd survive the cold, but they populate fast so you could take a few in for the winter. Water wisteria can be found at PetSmart in those little plant tubes. They're called something different though, not sure what.

dont get wisteria, it is tropical, you want something like hornwort DO NOT get bladderwort, else you fish population wont grow but the plant will

Would water wisteria help some of the fry survive? I have been reading around and so far hornwort and anacharis seem to be recommended as fry cover. Also can I have 2 types of plants together in a small rubbermaid (I am now looking at a 36g which is 30" x 20" x 20")? I want there to be enough cover to save some of the fry, but not so much that I cannot collect them.
