Easier water changes on a "larger" aquarium

I use my FX5 on my 135 to drain to the tank :). Hook up some 1" ID hose to the spare aqua stop valve the FX5 comes with and you can drain 900 GPH lol. Then I use the hose to fill the tank back up. On my 120 tall I use my python.
I did that as well before I sold my FX5. Just hooked it up and pumped the water out the front door!!!

I love my python! I use it on my 29g and I am done with a water change in only 30 minutes. Sadley, my 60g is upstairs and the python doesn't fit onto out faucet. I need to use a regular gravel vac and fill up a 10g 2x, then refill the tank 2x to replace the water. That takes me ~1.5 hours.

Hi
Nobody is using automatic water changers?? I use collected rainwater so when I set up my tanks plumbed in a system flip a switch and I'm done,
For the gravel tank I also have a purger system no vacuuming lol. When I had marine I collected my own SW . Boy did that system get complex and expensive., even with "free water" Going to setup a 125 using tap water and that definitely will have all the bells and whistles lol.
Not that I'm lazy just old and feeble. Was hoping to get some ideas on improvements to the system but nobody seems to have even heard of them let alone using them . Once you build one you'll throw your python away lol gary

I didn't even know they had automatic water changers and purger systems for aquariums! I know what I am asking for christmas this year!

I've been toting 5 Gallon buckets for 15 years or so to do WC's. I just ordered a python, I'm actually looking forward to using it for the first time when I get home in a few days. I don't think you can go wrong with one of those.

Oh, you can still go wrong with Python. Just don't get distracted and walk away while you are filling. Overflows aren't fun!

I use a Python too. You could just use a hose for refilling, you need an adapter for the sink

No worries. The sink adapter comes included in the package when you buy a Python.

I normally don't recommend using collected rain water. Maybe if you're in a rural area, it'd be okay. I would worry about pollutants contaminating the collected water. It's not really as "pure" as one might think.

LOL... that made me laugh. Almost nothing makes me feel more stupid than flooding the carpet when I've done that!

many people have them more so ones with their own fish room.

I just upgraded a 30gal to a 45gal and working with a 3gal bucket is a drag. I'm thinking of getting python and I already declor my tank directly, but I still have some concerns. Does the python have 3 setting? drain, fill and vacuum (drain/fill same time) ? I never used one, so I don't know exactly what the flow choices are. Also, is it possible to change the vacuum tube on the tank end to a hard plastic U shape with a inlet screen so you can hang it on the side of your tank for simple draining and filling duties?
