what themes do your tanks have?

i was thinking about doing a Polluted theme. leave some hosing in the bottom, maybe a jar, 6-pack rings, find some other aquarium-safe trash. set it in the sun for a bit to give the junk a nice coating of algae. put some driftwood in there that will leach tannins and darken the water to give it a dirty look. a school of some sort of catfish would go well in there because they're associated with eating trash... or crays

You could get some nice decorations, drybrush weather them, and then put aquarium safe sealant over them. It'd look dirty.

My tanks are all natural, no fake decorations. Just plants, rocks and wood. The only fake things I have are two small PVC pipes in my cichlid tank.

I think using only natural stuff is the only way to go

Wet Water.....all of them.

nice theme choice..........lol

i wonder why the fish are all so unhappy in dry tanks at petco until they get in urs

good idea, and more interesting than the more boring "aquarium safe" garbage. is it doable to completely seal an old leather boot if i don't bend or crease the leather afterward? you've open up a plethora of ideas

I'm attemping a newby themed tank: plastic & silk plants, and a bubbling volcano (for the kids). I couldn't find any fake gravel though, the stores were all out. I saw a piece of fake driftwood, but it was too expensive for me.

I thought I'd put in a couple of pics of my 29G. Forgive the Volcano!
This is before I added the silk plants.

This is after.

I'm trying to make it look a little more natural. The volcano will be coming out by the weekend.

Thats a pretty cool idea. Im currently planning something sort of similar. Its going to be an urban wasteland themed tank. Im planning on using bricks to make a 3d background that looks like a broken and crumbling wall. Then half of the bottom of the tank will also have bricks like a sidewalk, and the other have will have tahitian moon sand to give an asphalt look. It wont have much for decoration, but im planning on making a gutter downspout out of black pvc. Im also going to use an old broken bottle(rounded and smoothed with ceramic), can rings, and a few other misc things as decoration as well. Ill be adding some flame moss and a few crypts and dwarf hair grass or microsword that will be growing out of cracks in the wall and sidewalk. This is mostly just a project for my nephews. It will be in a 20g going in this modern industrial looking stand(the right side will have a piece of diamond plate by the time its finished).
