Just bought some MTS, wondering lowest pH they can have?

Hey everyone, I keep my pH kind of low in my tank for my delicate GBR (usually from 6.4-6.6), but I'm about to get some MTS to stir up my sand a bit with the plants I just purchased. I want them to survive and hopefully thrive, but I know the softness of my water and low pH may be a problem. I was wondering what the minimum pH they can survive in would be?

What would you all do in this situation? Thank you! :perv:

Not sure how low they can tolerate, they do better in the higher ph ranges like upper 6's + though. I'd give it a shot and see how they do.

Is it a possibility that they will reproduce faster than they die off? I do add calcium to the water to raise pH since my tap water is very soft and acidic.

You could probably also look at some of the snail jello recipes that'll help with the hardness of the shells. It may be kind of a wash with the acidic water.

I've read anything from "you can't kill these guys and they'll be fine in pH as low as 6" to "keep the pH around 7". What is the truth?

The truth? Probably something along the lines of YMMV. They'll survive low pH water. Will their shells do well? Probably not. 7+ is probably better for MTS long term. That said, your GBR will likely be more flexible with pH. From what I'm seeing around here, and from my previous experience, steady pH is more important to fish than x or y pH. You could possibly try adding some crushed coral into a media bag into your filter to raise the pH some. Monitor closely, and if your GBRs don't like it, pull it and do water change.

^below 6, yes, but he wants to knwo if they are fine at 6.4+, or not. I think they should be okay, they should reproduce pretty fast, and if u have probs. just set up a 1/2 gallon container without a filter, with a few plants, and then put a few in there, and then keep putting a few in ur tank weekly;)
