what is more peaceful than silence?

I was talking with some buddies on another site, one of them actually brought that up. When the machines wipe us out, it will be because we're too annoying, like mosquitoes, not because we are dangerous.

Is this your homework?

lol, no, I was just discussing it on a chat site with some buddies and was bored, so I posted it here to see what was said.

Actually, that is a perfect example of what I meant with #2. Two cities were destroyed, and it effectively ended WW2. Humans are now so terrified of nukes that the idea of nuclear war is so horrible we can't even imagine it happening (at least, not on a large scale. How many people worry about a nuclear terrorist attack?)

Well there wasn't much left of WW2 to fight. Italy was defeated. Germany was defeated. And Japan was defeated, they just weren't willing to admit it yet. They didn't really end the war, they simply shaped how the war ended (surrender as opposed to invasion).

Humans aren't really terrified of nuclear weapons. We are terrified of anything with the words "nuclear" in it.
Plus there is no reason to be terrified of nuclear weapons. As anyone over a certain age will be able to tell you, all you need to do to survive one is duck under a school desk. Rather over-hyped weapon when you think about it.

The Dalek are not machines

YOU WILL BE EXTERMINATED!

I know that the second part of the second comment is a joke, but for the other part of the second comment, humans are terrified of it. We are so terrified that our brains, as an naturally occurring evolutionary device, have ignored and rejected the idea of nuclear war actually happening, regardless of how possible or likely it is. If we always walked around with that kind of fear, we wouldn't be able to function as a society, and everything would break down, thus the brain is in denial.

For the first part, that is true, but Japan could have lasted for months more then it did. If those bombs hadn't been dropped, WW2 would have cost a great deal more lives, resources, and time to win. It was inevitable, but the use of nuclear weaponry is what ended it and finally broke Japanese spirit and will to fight. Seeing a city or two wiped off the face of the earth could probably do that to any nation, and DID scare them into ending the war, if only to prevent the weapon from being used again.

I'm more of a fan of the Terran Federation.

The Human Republic is my personal favorite.
