Fozzybear Update (Pic Heavy)

lookin good fozzy, i love the peice of malaysian i have in my 20, i have a piece of mopaoi that ive been soaking for months now and im still not happy with how much it leaks. i mean a tea stained tank is fine but not for me, i did not know how much it leaked or much about it when i bought it.

blah blah blah says fozzybear.

okay, so i just finally worked out the tanks for the move to AK i found this deal on craigslist http://anchorage.craigslist.org/pet/2898814260.html. Called the guy, he still had the tank, it has some scratches but they go away when its full we talked for a bit and finally worked out this deal for $500

125 gal tank + stand
29 gal sump
55 gal tank + stand brand new
2 x brand new Rena Xp4s

Now I know this is a little bit spendy but shipping to AK is a big deal cheapest i could find was $350 for a 125 gal tank. so with that considered what do ya'll think? Its all been salt gear so I'm going to have my work cut out for me cleaning wise but with a little elbow grease which is free I think we'll be ship shape.

I was planning on a sump for the filtration for the 125, furthermore the sump comes with all of the pumps and a skimmer which will by handy when i finally build kate's salt tank

looks cool and its already set up for a sump i say go for it, considering it may be hard to find/ship that kind of a system. we should totally chill sometime before you leave, id love to see ur current set ups.

dwarf water lettuce but yes, exactly as he said, very cool looking plant too with big hydrophobic leaves. I'm bet if you asked real nice chem could be persuaded to ship some to you, I would but I've actually only got a few in my tanks right now because I'm working on carpeting these days and the tanks I have full of floaters would be over-run by them. They grow great and give nice texture to a tank.

I've played with lots of floaters by the way, frogbit you can see in some of the earlier pictures, it has thin roots that will actually hit the substrate and root for real. Its very cool for tanks that you don't want to "plant" heavily, it gives a kindof ethereal wispy look to the tank, I've got a friend that just has those a various crypts in a tank with the fancy white clouds that Jinkzd carries and its absolutely stunning, then there is salvinia which has small leaves and whispy short roots, I use it to cover up all of my smaller tanks that i'm not really trying to grow anything significant in (for instance it keeps that 20L multies tank more or less algae free despite the fact that there are only two anubias which are slow growing and hence basically useless for competing with algae). It also has hydrophobic leaves and gives really nice texture...then there is good old duckweed which has tiny root systems and is...weedy...idk...Salvinia>duckweed. Almost forgot, there is also red root salvinia which is pretty much epic, I've got that in the 10g that's all overgrown with the guppy grass and has the badidae.

This is that same tank about a year and a half ago with frogbit and salvinia...let me go grab you a picture of the waterlettuce

Wow. I always thought they looked like weeds that float. Never had a chance to look at the bottom. It gives it a "layered" look to your aquarium and extra hiding places for your fish.

yes im totally down to ship some to ya if ya pay the shipping, ive got tons, and it grows like weeds , literally when i started my new 20 i put a handful in and in no time it had covered the tank. ive got it growing in my friends tanks too. pm if u want some

I'm delighted by the offer but sadly I will have to take a rain check. I'm currently swamped from work and other things has come up. I might be moving or changing jobs...I don't even know. My tank is just sitting in storage ATM. There is just too much in my life that is influx for me to restart an aquarium right now. What I can do is to plan out what fish/plants I want thought. When things settle down, I will definitely ask for some.

Okay, after boiling to wood off and on for...ever, I've finally pulled the plants out of bob's tank and added the wood with the anubias attached. I've been impressed by Bob in the last couple of days, he has worked tirelessly to dig out his cave and has hauled at least 15 inches worth of 1/4" diameter driftwood around the tank like its nothing and deposited it in certain locations, so i tried to utilize the tank in the manners I'd seen him do it. Then I moved all the plants into the beta palace, seriously, most spoiled fish ever.

Bob's tank all redone, we'll see how he destroys this layout. This tank is more or less the testing ground for his 55 that I'm putting up, I'm thinking I want to do stumps, something like this one herep-33027-42130-driftwood.jpg, maybe a couple on the outside edges with piles of smaller sticks along the back, then fasten anubias and java fern everywhere

Anyways, here's the deals

Here's Bob's cave, he doesn't actually spend too much time in there, but he keeps it very clean and will disappear in there in a moment if he actually gets scared, I made sure it has two exits in the back one upper left one right

Stacked this wood so there is shade under the anubias, You can actually see the bite marks on some of the leaves

The beta palace. he's in there somewhere

Oh yeah, almost forgot, I was planning on hot water and vinegar to clean off the salt tank for FW use, is there anything else I should be thinking? I'll be changing all the media in the filters regardless.

Okay, so I just remembered the other thing I wanted to ask you guys about. I was reading about the Jack Dempsey's diet in the wild and realized that they actually eat almost 30% fiber in the form of chitin from the crustaceans shells, so, I'm going to have to figure out how to spike his fiber content, I'm thinking I'll go buy some ghost shrimp for him, feed him some more mysis shrimp, and I fed him an algae wafer tonight to hold him over (also he LOVES peas, eats blanched skinned peas whole). Anybody have an dietary suggestions to get him enough chitin? Anybody have potential issues that could arise from substituting vegitable fibers such as those found in peas and algae wafers, btw he is all about that algae wafer, just chowing down.

maybe a crab? i had a puffer that used to eat ghost shrimp tail first while they desperately tried to get away. brutal part of the animal kingdom you could say

Spent all morning (like 5 hours) doing a nice deep cleaning on all my tanks and spending time with my fish. I cleaned out all my filter media (some of it I really should have gotten to..ick) anywho, I thought I'd grab a couple pictures and update ya'll on Mr. Bob, its really hard to judge but his tail is either healing up nicely to a permanent nub or healing up nicely into a tail again. At least its healing up nicely. Behaviorally he's doing great, he doesn't scare easily anymore and even nibbled left over food off my fingertip after water changes. You can see in the pictures that he was all about figuring out what the phone was.

Honestly, scroll back up and see what I thought his tank looked nice like. He is very particular, if you look at those little sticks he hauls them all over and they've got obvious bite marks on them
