What was your first car? What would you choose as a first car for a teen?

My first car was a Toyota Celica. Paid $1600 for it.

My first car was a 1993 Ford Escort. Good little car. Out of the 4 vehicles I have had, by far my favorite was my 1987 Ford Ranger. If you want a truck, see about getting a Ranger. Great little trucks. (Just try and get one with a V6, the inline 4s don't have enough power for it to get decent mileage)

1993 vauxhall corsa called lucy, got stolen twice but always came back renamed it 'boomerang'. Loved the think but she was written off after someone crashed into me, got more money than I paid for it though haha.

Lol

The prices around here are crazy even with high miles. I have looked at the ford ranger, it would be nice, especially a 4x4 model for the Illinois winter having to be at school around 5am on saturdays (road to the school isnt normally plowed by then).

My friends car was $6k, but it only had 60,000 miles on it and is in really great shape.

There is the possibility that one of my parents would get a new car for themselves and I would either be driving a 2008 Hyundai sonata or a 2006 envoy xl. The envoy would be nice for winter, but otherwise I dont have use for the 7 seats it has or the dvd player built in the ceiling. The bose audio is nice. Personally, if I got one of their cars, I would want the hyundai. Better gas mileage and more practical since you cant have more than 1 (maybe 2) friends in the car until you are 18.

Neatfish: that is how my parents are. Trying to find a job even if I probably wont like it. My parents said if I got a good volunteer position I could still get a car and my license, but for some reason a lot of places require you to be 18 or accompanied by an adult. I would rather have a job to pay for gas.

Thanks for all of the suggestions for cars to get and cars to stay away from! Does anyone else have suggestions?

1973 VW Karmann Ghia. No AC, no horsepower, and almost no floor pans. **** I wish I had that car today!

Lol, my dad is always telling me how his sonata has no horsepower. But it isnt that bad at around 140hp. Of course, he has driven a nascar and now wants a mustang, charger, or challenger.

My mom told stories about how her friends mom had a car that was missing flooring in the rear seats so you had to be careful with your feet and if they went through snow or water it would splash up and hit them.

My friend said in his drivers ed class the teacher showed a pic of someone who stuck a house window air conditioner in the passenger window.

As long as the car runs, isnt duck taped together, and the wheel doesnt go crazy when you tap the break, it would probably be fine to me. Ac and heat would be really good to have as well with the crazy weather going on the past year and a half. It was hotter in IL than it was when I went to florida last month.

My first vehicle was a 1984 dodge d100 full size van. $200 bucks from a plumber my dad knew. It was ugly, but it provided some of the best times I can remember from my teen years.

my first car was a 76 Camaro and I loved it but it was hard on gas.... I got an 88 Pontiac Grand Am after that, hated that car for everything it was worth. It constantly broke down and the engine wound up going. Then I got an 80-something 280Z, was a good car but rough, Next, a 300ZX that was an awesome ride but low to the ground. THAT was a good car. I then went Ford Ranger, 4x4 and LOVED LOVED LOVED that truck. It was awesome! Now I have a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's a smoother ride than the truck and it has heated seats with sirius radio in the system which is good for me. The only one I truly miss is the Ranger. That was a convenient and fun truck to have. Tonneau (sp?) covers for the back help with the gas pull.

Danger I agree with you about the grand am. I had a 2000 grand am GT and I would have set it on fire given the chance... Hated that car

I've owned two Pontiacs in the past. An '88 Grand Prix and a '91 Grand Prix. Awful cars! Hated mine, too. LOL
