Yeah, $32 and $6 shipping, and wouldn't be surprised if Petco charges like $39 in store for it if they have it.
I'd go with the BRS netting, then when you have a few extra bucks $20 at home depot will get you the screening frame, rubber gasket, and tool for pushing net/rubber together into the frame. I bought it after I lost a couple firefish in a 2 week period, haven't lost anyone since.
The material is pretty strong have 6 T5HO bulbs a few inches away from it and no problems with it sagging.

I think light diffuser (egg crate) would work great provided your killifish are not small enough to fit through the openings. It won't be affected by your lights, won't bow over time like plexi would and it should be under $20. You should be able to get it at any Home Depot or Lowes, just head to the lighting department.

Yeah eggcrate has 1/2" or bigger openings, doesn't seem like much but small fish will fit through.

just get a piece of fiberglass window screen drape it over the light fixture and tank trim to size. you can get any size you want at the box stores For a frame you can go with either aluminum or acrylic window frames. you can use silicone in place of the rubber holdfasts. I like them withourt frames as it's easy to change around.
Does require a hold down on corners I use shot glasses with or without plants lol

Plexiglass and acrylic sag in the presence of moisture.
Lexan works really well, but traps moisture and needs to be cleaned about as often as glass would. It can be expensive as well.
