I would have to say I found the posts a bit rash and harsh when not called for. It is one thing to scream at a moron that won't listen and another to keep calling someone cruel because they just learned they were in fact being cruel and wanted help.

i wouldve understood the comments if the person was told that the fish were in bad condtiions and they didnt care, but this person was looking for help, and wasnt given it in a positive way.

Maybe we can all learn from this thread... Just sayin:beer::D

Huh, I'm just a newbie here but have lots of experience with pet forums, and I would have said she was treated in a very genteel and respectful way, overall. But dog people do tend to get WAY more riled up than fish people, lol.

You also have to take into consideration that caring for fish is a lot more complicated than most other animals. I think the comments were a little too harsh and up front. You will always go further with someone if you are nice and helpful vs. Becoming rude and inconsiderate towards someone.

If you keep fish in bad conditions, people will say something. I don't think anyone ever means any harm, they're just disappointed and maybe a bit disgusted about how some people keep their fish? I have no idea what your story is but I do feel bad that you're leaving under such a situation. If I had a dime for every time someone said something critical about me and my fishkeeping attempts with regard to this site, then I'd have a lot of hamburgers.

Yes, that's what I'm saying though. It is just a matter of perception I guess, but that's what I saw from people here, was them being nice and helpful, even when "shouted" at by the recipient. Part of why I like this forum.

ETA and I would say that chemistry aside, caring for a freshwater fish tank is much less complicated than correctly caring for most dogs. As in, proper discipline, training mannerly behavior, diet, exercise, socialization, keeping them mentally stimulated, etc....That's one of the reasons responsible fishkeeping is probably a very good starting point for a young animal lover.

Saying that her fish are going to die is very uncalled for. And your being a little over the top. Because she left this forum doesn't mean that she won't try a different one and hopefully she will find people who are less offensive. Stating your opinion can be taken a variety of ways. In her case. I would have told her "you need to rehome your fish until you can get the basics of proper fish keeping down, and hopefully then you can get more tanks so you can make your fish more comfortable." Instead of "your a terrible fish keeper, why would you do that? Your fish are going to die" though the fish dying might hold some merit, its unnecessary to voice yourself in such a harsh way.

Just reading the other threads now and I do agree that alot of the replies are overly negative and not as constructive as they could be. I think alot of people here get very upset about fish in bad conditions and that clouds their mind and can cause them to come off harsh. Its easy to forget we all were new at one point. And even now are we all perfect fish keepers? No its a constant learning process. Anyway I'm sorry about your bad experience and its a shame you are leaving.
