And the days aren't 15 hours long in the summer!
 
Our sunrise here is usually at 5am and sunset at 5-6pm. So we have 12hours day time also all year round. :-) Yes maybe this is very difficult to do in your part of the globe. But maybe you could try. :-)

I have one that's half shaded, but it still turns into a pond around the end of May.
 
SubRosa do you have nerites where you live? Also shrimps? They are the ones that keep my tank algae free.

The only shrimp in mine are food! No nerites around here.
 
In that case, it would be very hard for you to keep an outdoor tank without algae infesting it with just a few days. I've experimented with it before. On this same spot, I tried to take away the shrimps and nerites from my old tank. Within just three days the water became very green and the plants and walls were full of algae. Then without cleaning the tank (scraping the algae from the walls and plants), I only changed the water 100% and put back the shrimps and snails, the tank was agael algae free in just 5 days. The plants became healthier and the glass of the tank was clear
