So my new 40g is going to be going in the same spot as the old 20g. You all know what that means; lots of water changes and heavy lifting
Taking the old 20g stand out of storage.
Draining the 20g.
Fish waiting in a bucket.
20g on the stand and being refilled.
Fish handled a stressful day pretty well. An hour later they were back to normal.
Brought the tank up and filled it with sand.
Filled up!
Tomorrow, my glass cover should get in. Might try to get some more plants. My light fixture and filter have shipped. Filter is suppose to get in Friday. Really hope the lights get it otherwise the weekend is going to feel like forever.
But it won't fit on the back. Had to place it on the side.
I threw in a lava rock. I think it's a coral rock. Bought it a long time ago and never used it. Ph went up to 7.4-7.6ish Will retest to see where it settles. When I add the driftwood it should lower down a bit to a more neutral PH and not as drastic change for the fish compared to our soft NYC tap water.
Last Sunday I took some floss and stuck in the filter for the 20g tank. Today I moved it into the new filter. Hopefully it helps jump start the cycle.
Tank needs some bio-load, so I placed two Praecox Rainbows in there.
I did go to pick up the glass top like I mentioned before, but as I feared, it was the wrong one. They ordered me the top for a 40g breeder with a center brace. Will have to wait until Tuesday to get the correct one.
My light fixture is currently "out for delivery", so my Day 4 update should be a good one.
Quick and early update tomorrow since I'm going to be busy later on. Will format later.
I was able to fix the filter's position. Just pull the "stand" out further away from the wall (I'm very strong). Duh doy!
Lights came nice and early. Right before noon.
Unboxing the lights. I read some reviews that they don't include instructions for the time, but I did get some, so I guess they listened to people's complaint. It didn't however come with instructions for the legs, took me 40 minutes to figure them out.
Lights are up!
I did retest the water's PH level and it up to 8.4!! I turned on the bubble wand and transferred over the driftwood to help lower it. If it doesn't work I'll have to scrap the rock. We'll see what happens.
Going to a ball game now. Might pass by the LFS and ask them to hold some fish for me. Stay tuned.
Day 5 & 6: (September 15-16, 2012) Major changes/Plants
Bought a few plants, two pieces of ebony rocks/slate (forgot what it's called) and rearranged the driftwood. Took all the java moss off except a few clingers on the left-most piece. It's starting to feel like fall here in NY. Time for the heater.
Dat moonlight.
Had half a day at EMT classes today and an unlimited metrocard (bus/train pass), so I hit up four not so local fish stores. Couldn't find any bristlenose plecos, praecox rainbows, or any cool angelfish, but I did buy some more plants, a nitrate test kit (runs out faster then other tests in the master test kit), flourish, and root tabs. Also bought 10 Cardinal Tetras. They are in my 20g for now.
Doesn't come out the best in photos, but I love the moonlights.
PH seems to have settles at about 7.2-7.4 ish, it's right on the border of the regular and high range ph test. I think I'll be transferring over some more fish tomorrow into their new home.
