I see, I’m sorry to say this, but pellets and bloodworms is not enough of mineral intake for a betta, especially big ones. That’s what I believe at least. I feed mine bug bites, mysis and brine shrimp (gamma irradiated :0), bloodworms and daphnia and I see no probs with him.

I feed my bettas a mix of food, blood worms are a treat. I have 2-3 brands of pellets and two types of bug bites. I had brine shrimp but it defrosted and I had to toss it.

Yeah, I’d just add more frozen good to their diet, as well as mosquito larvae. Maybe springtails as well? They’re great clean up crew for fulica enclosure and betta food.

Its to cold here to get mosquito larvae and its to cold to have live foods sent to me. I can see if the lfs has live foods. I can also get flightless fruit flies to feed them.

I never had issues feeding them pellets and frozen blood worms or brine.

I see your point, I didn’t have issues either. I just didn’t have brine or mysis, but then my interest in them decreased so now I’m just forcing myself to do so otherwise another one dies on me, which I don’t want. You know?
If I feed him a lot of frozen foods rather than pellets, but I’m quite concerned about the risk of constipation and then dropsy... I become quite nervous about my betta dieying on dropsy again. Hopefully not?

Not all bloating results in dropsy. I had bettas bloat but fasting them helped and they were fine afterwards. I think I only lost 5 bettas to dropsy over a span of 18 years.
