One Blood Parrot, Four black skrit tetras.... 30lbs of limestone. some fake drift wood and 1-2 pieces of texas wholy rock. when the BP gets big going to transfer him into my African cichlid tank and sell the africans. or, two angels and one BP.

was researching BP, and Severums and firemouths. all cichlids I am condidering getting for my 30. Not all but one.... And they are require a Soft water, with a PH of 6-6.5. How does one do that? our tap water if fairly Hard water and a PH og 6.8-7.2 HMMMM... Also the severum is best kept with a sand bottom, but im using a UGF. Any other substrate I can use. I already got gravel and would like to use it because of its color

Your pH is fine for any of the fish you've listed...it's more than close enough and they're not notoriously sensitive fish. The Firemouth actually will be fine between about 6.8 to 8 pH.

Severums don't need sand. They might like it, but it's not a need. THey should be fine with gravel.

However, I'd not go with angels in your tank. They need more height unless you plan to move them over to the 45 gallon tall when it's bigger.

A 30 long is a fun sized tank (I have a 33 gallon 36" long tank - same footprint just an inch or two taller). A single firemouth, severum or BP should do well in there (the firemouth would be OK forever). Lots of smaller cichlids (dwarfs like curviceps, bolivian rams, etc. up to keyholes) will do good in pairs or small groups in your tank.

Have fun!

well I can get BP's. I havent seen any firemouths at my 4 LFS. Im going to go and do a little more research and try to find somone with a full grown firemouth so i can see how they look. What tankmate would you recomend for a BP. I want 4 black skirt tetras, but what else.

I had a BP in my 29, and I say had because she was way too agressive. They don't have the teeth, but some of them (like the one I had) chase the other fish around and around until the stress factor sets in. I highly reccomend that if you do get a BP, you watch his behavior with the other fish very closely.
