:help: Hi im just about to start a new tank (a 25 galloner) and am gunna use it for tropical fish so i would like some advice on what heater to get and what filter. Im gunna be keeping mainly small fish in it like Kribensis, Harlequins, Zebera danios, Gouramis and others (maybe some sucker fish, not sure of the correct name sorry). So some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I have what I think is a Penguin filter with a bio wheel on it. I've used it for 3 1/2 years without any problems. It's also very quiet.

research even your post is flawed in the thinking that some of those fish will live in that size tank
have fun and go slow

I would get a 150watt, some people perfer two smaller heaters just in case one fails your tank's temp will not drop too far. Most on here recommend visi-stealth heaters. I myself have all tronic heaters with the heater guard. If you go the "dual" heater route, you could probably get two 50's or 75's. your stocking plan needs some work, I'm sure people will be along to help you. welcome to AC!

Don't buy a low quality heater to save money; it is the one thing you should splurge on quality.

Recommend the Aquaclear filters, quieter and more reliable, IMO.

Drop the kribs, keep the Gourami to one dwarf in that small of a tank, get some corys for the bottom, not plecos.

What heater would be quality in your opinion?

I really didn't have a specific brand in mind. Was thinking of some types included in the rock bottm priced startup kits. I prefer submersible ones myself.

my vote is for Marineland Visi-therm Stealth submersible. been using them for a long time and never had any problems. as for a filterer i would go with a hob.

Dont buy a common Pleco. will get to big.

best bet would to look around and see what small fish your LFS has. come back and start researching them to see what will work. dont just buy what they tell you would work. most fish stores just try to sell you anything and dont care about the fish.

read up on cycling.
