do you think throwing a fire retardent blanket over my tanks in a fire would protect then from fire damage?

It's not the heat and fire that kill people, it is usually the smoke inhalation. I bet a fire retardant blanket would help with small fires, but for a roaring house fire, I don't think it would do much. Especially if the firemen use chemical combative (foam) instead of water. It is rather toxic.

Although, I aplaud your Idea to save the fish, You should get out, those fish, no matter how much money, time, and effort you put in are not worth risking your life! iF you have other animals, Don't waste time on them either, If they aren't crated, or caged, most probably they will escape. open a window for them and then get out! ..I know that sounds harsh, But I lost a freind several years ago in a fire, because she wanted to save her cat, who was already out of the house. open the cages, open a window and leave.

that's horrible .. Sorry to hear that..

I'd bust the aquarium hoping the extra water would help put out the fire...

i'm sorry but I colud never share that mentality. my animals are the most important things in my life, I would lay my life down any day of the week to help them. survival of all or none for me. I know i'm crazy, but that's just what I beleive in.

Me too! I would DIE if one of my cats died! I love all my other animals but me and my cats have a speical relantionship... especially after someone purposly hit my cat with the car:(
