If I was to set up a new tank, are you able to put cichlids in with community tropicals like rasboras and tetras? If so, what species of cichilds?

Rams and Apistos are your best bets in a community tank. Angels can work also, but you can't have anything too small.

I just added an Angelfish to my community tank and my Gourami is kicking his *** although they are supposedly compatible

opaline gouramis are one of the most aggressive gouramis out there. they kill anything in the tank that is smaller than they are. the only gouamis that angels can be with are pearls, dwarf gouramis, and honey gouramis.

Most of the time.... I would think if there is one thing all aquarists agree on here is there are no rules written in stone, just because an internet source says they can't be, or it didn't work in your particular circumstance doesen't mean its not possible. You won't know until you try.

So a full grown Angelfish can't defend himself against a measly Gourami??

I'd say they are a disgrace to cichlids then , lol.

I guess I got a bunch of bogus info on the internet because everything I read said they are fine with gouramis. I'm going to work to get rid of the Redtail and Gourami, they are a pain in my ***...I'm sick of thier agressive ways.
