I know from the pictures that many of you have cats in addition to your wet pets, I was just wondering what cat food you feed them. Everything seems to upset one of my kitty's belly. I've taken him to the vet several times and they say to keep changing his food, I've spent the last year doing this, always gradually and for at least a month. I'm now using Nutro, it seems to be doing the best so far as far as his poop problem (uncontrolable) but he's super gassy, like the smell wakes me up. I think a skunk broke into my house. There's got to be someone else who has this problem!:duh:

might want to try making the cat's food yourself. sounds like allergies of some kind. this is a recipe by the pet-advice guy who has a column in most newspapers. the cat food recipe is on the bottom half of the page.

I use "special kitty"
but my cats eat allmost anything:D

I use a chicken and rice Science diet for all 4 of my cats. I chose it because I learned a lot about it when I worked at a vet's office. Usually when a cat has allergies, they scratch and itch a lot, just like dogs. They can get hot spots (places where they lick and lick until the hair falls out, then lick and lick til it's raw). How long have you had him on Nutro? If it's only a little while, his system is probably still trying to get used to the food.

Cats thrive on routine. Changing their food constantly makes them stressed i.e. loose stools, not eating at all, or overeating. Try to feed him at the same time everyday instead of free feeding if you don't already. He'll complain, but you might be able to control the amount he's eating, which might be leading to his gassiness. Think about how full and gassy you feel after a big meal.. :)

Is he having loose stool (formed, but very soft) or liquid stool? If either of these make sure he's drinking enough water to compensate for his water loss.

Another thing, has anything else changed in your house lately? Did someone move in or out? Did you move the furniture? Add something new? My cats always get upset stomachs when things change (well, 3 out of the 4 do. The fourth could watch the house being demolished without batting an eyelash)...lol...they are literally creatures of habit.

He's been like this since I found him over a year ago. I did find that when I got him on the really cheap stuff, he no longer had the loose stools, but then he started ripping his hair out. It hasn't been too long on the Nutro. I leave him on each food for at least 6 weeks. I tried the Science Diet several months ago and it made him so bad that I would look at him wrong and he would poo himself. In fact, one of my other kitties jumped on him one night and he did a $h)t flip and I wound up having to scrub the ceiling, the walls, the furniture... not a pretty sight. I should've taken pictures. Nothing has changed in my house, like I said, he's been like this since he found me, maybe the reason why his last parents didn't want him.

Maybe it's not the food at all. Has he been wormed lately? He might have an intestional parasite...

I was actually wondering if this was possible, I mean, I'm sure it is but he is an indoor/outdoor cat and a hunter. I know that's how they usually wind up with these things. Thanks for all your help.

I dont even know what we feed our cats because my mom buy sit, but I would like to point out I heard somewhere that fish and seafood flavored foods and treats have chemicals in them that can cause problems in cats
