Hi Guys,

Recently the planted tank bug has bitten me, and off I went to get a small cube for my apartment. I wanted a tank along the lines of japanese, grasslands, gorges, freshness, cleancut. And so... I decided on having a tank full of hair grass, some glosso and a background plant that I need help identifying.

Anyway, here are some tank facts. Its a 10 gallon tank (18 inches), with 48 watts of 10 000 k lighting, 23-28 deg celcius, pressurised CO2 1 bubble per second to ceremic diffuser, hang on back mini filter. Fine 1-2mm subtrate on a fertiliser based on peatmoss.

The only stock I have in there is a tiny tiger shrimp. Which I think, doesnt really like it in there.

I've got a few questions... hope someone can address them.

1) My ph is 5.5 ... is this alright ?

2) My hair grass dont seem to be doing well, its 3 days old and its starting to look abit old. I've just cut them to 1 inches long as I've read somewhere saying its good for them.

3) I've got good lighting, I've got good CO2, why aint the plants bubbling as much as I would like them to ? I see a few bubbles on the leaves, but thats abt it.

4) Pls help me identify the plant on the left back portion, just behind the rock. I found it nice, but i realise it does not have roots at the bottom, it does have aerial roots. What are the requirements ?

5) How long should I expect for the tank to be carpetted ?

6) I've added the "all in one" liquid fertiliser by seachem and thats abt it, is there anything else I should add ? Its a brand new tank.

Thanks for your help guys.

Below are the tank pictures for your reference.

I've added a few pictures for your viewing pleasure.

ANy further advice would be much appreciated. I want this to go really well.

first off...thts an awsome lookin tank, in a month it's goin to look great.

the plant u cant ID looks like watersprite to me: http://www.plantgeek.net/images/plantpics/watersprite.jpg

someone correct me if im wrong.

i would stop using an all in one formula and does each fert individually, that way you can hav more control. u can use either seachem flourish line or dry ferts from gregwatsons, really depends if u comfortable with measuring out dry ferts and adjusting dose as needed. rex grigg has a good guide to ferts and dosin.

5.5 ph should be fine, unless there is some strict requirement about the plant, they will prob adjust. u might wanna pick up a API kh test kit and PH test kit if u havent already got one, this will help u better measure the CO2 being dissolved in your tank.

give the hairgrass some time, its only been 3 days. like fish plants need time to adjust to enviroment. you'll def see a big diff in one months time.

you could take a picture each week to track your results, and see how much growth youve had. don't forget to post your pics, looks like it's goin to be a very nice tank.

Background plant is Wisteria (Hygrophila difformis or Synema triforium), I think.

u know i think you're right, it does look like wisteria, but honestly i do get the wisteria and watersprite mixed up. i guess u can tell by the thicker stem and shape of leaves on wisteria....good call

Thats awesome for 1 month. Mine has been goin for six, I wish mine looked that good.

Your pH is going to be low because of the peat moss based substrate.

Pearling is not the goal. If it is then you picked the wrong hobby. Read my Guide about nutrients. I'm guessing that you added Seachem Flourish. That's a trace mineral mix at best. You need to add some macros.

Thanks Guys, I will coming by very often now. :hang: I just wish they would start forming streams of bubbles ! They just wouldnt

lol are you sure the plant is real? It looks perfectly shaped and everything. It doesnt really look like wisteria to me
