does anyone have a way to refill the tank with out simply pouring the water into it cause i do this and the substrate goes everywere and its just a pain and the way i have it set up i cant get the bucket higher then the tank to syphion it out and i think its to far from the faucet to connect it?? so is there any other things i could try?? thanks
A python is pricey but is awsome and you can get them 50 feet long, probably long enough for you. It works as the siphon and the refill. Just add the dechlorinator right into the tank then refill away.
I went to my local hardware store and bought a small indoor fountain pump. What I do is fill my re-fill bucket and only treat the water in the bucket. I then drop in the fountain pump with the hose attached and pump out the bucket.
I really like this method because I save on chemicals as I am not treating the whole tank. I sit the pail on the floor and can still pump the water the required 3 to 4 feet to top of tank.
You may also want to consider a Python drain and fill system
I have multiple tanks and had been using a 15 gallon bin to remove and return water to my tanks - i just purchased a 50 foot Python - and its great. I still siphon out the window into the yard and use the bathroom faucet to refill matching the temperature before i do so. conditioner added right to the tank
It really makes things handy as doing a 50% water change on a 90 gallon had required alot of lifting on my part.
I have priced them out (I'm in Canada though) at about $50 for the 20 foot one. That's a complete kit with everything to get started. You can buy an extension kit which is just more hose for about $20 for 20 more feet.
FYI - I paid $17 for the fountain pump at Home Depot.
Depends on the length, what you can also do is buy the python parts ( they sell them all separately ) and then buy the length of hose you need from the HW store for fairly cheap if you need it longer than 25ft it would likely end up being cheaper than buying the 50ft python.
They start at $25, the cool thing about them is you can siphon water out faster with the help of the suction from the faucet, makes water changes very fast.
Although IMO its overkill for a 10g tank, I can suck 10g out of my 65gal in less than a minute with the python.
thats the thing i only have a 10g and i syphon the water out in to on bucket and just fill up another bucket with water and let it sit before i syphon the tank so i was just trying to see if there was a way anyone came up with to pour the water back into the tank??
