Hi i am new to this and have not had fish that have breaded before. I have them in a 10 gallon tank. I have learned that this is to small. What do I until they hatch?

I don't reallt know anything about these, how long does it take for them hatch(i guess you call it). i received these fish as a gift and had. Have not had fish in about 15 years.

Some questions

another question I had reguarding these fish it that they dig and move the gravel and plants around alot. I thought at first that maybe it was because they were looking for a place to lay thier eggs, but they are continuing to do this. They actually pretty much destroy the tank, they don't leave anything where it was. Is this normal?

As for the fry is has been 24 hours now since they were layed on acouple leaves of a plant. I assume that it is going well, it does look like some are missing but the majority are there. is there anything I need to do to the tank or expect? i am a little worried about my filter because it is a aquaclear and I am nervous that they may get sucked into it when they start swimming.

If anyone could answers these questions or give me a little information that would be greatly appreciated. I was told that these and albino chiclids and I was also told they were convicts, but from looking at pics her I would say they are not convicts.

Welcome to the world of cichlids!! I had a pretty well planted tank...until the introduction of cichlids, now it is extreamly lightly planted they uprooted everything and destroyed most all the plants!! And yes they love to move around rocks, sand everything!

As for the rest of your questions, I'm not really sure the only babies I've had the mom held the eggs in her mouth until they hatched then continued to hold them in her mouth for about a week after that. I moved her into a new tank until she released them then but her back in the other tank.

it has been a week now since she has laid her fry, How long till i see swimmers. I am not seeing anything yet and she moved the fry when they started to hatch. could she just have them somewhere or did she eat them? I have a flower pot in the tank and she is in there most of the time now and I can't see anything. Also the male is still very agressive. He actually hits the glass if you are close and took acouple swipes at my hand when I was cleaning the glass on the inside of the tank. I am nervouse to do any partial water changes because I do not know where the fry are.

if she is in the pot most likly so are the babys, als you need to cover the intake valve of the aqua filter with a nylon so they do not get sucked up. Ohters can tell you more but they will get sucked up if you are not careful. I can not see your pics very well, can you make them bigger?

So you no longer see the eggs? and she moved them? you do not see anything? Are these pink convicts ?

Give it a few more days. I had around 200 eggs that dissappeared and I thought they had been eaten and 3 or 4 days after that I started seeing little wigglers, so it is still possible they are still in the tank. The parents can be very protective and will hide them. Good luck. Start looking for a larger tank.
