When I feed my foxface I just rip up the lettuce/ seaweed and put it in. Do I need to put it on a clip or anything?

you dont need to. no
veggie clips are good though because they prevent leftover food from floating around and polluting your tank

Will romaine lettuce rot if left a long time in the tank?

anything will rot if left in there a long time

It is an organic matter so if you want to get really in depth it begins to rot the minute it is seperated from the root of the plant.

But the answer you are looking for is yes if left to long it will rot and polute your tank.

If I make my own with a plastic clip, a suction cup, and hot glue, will the hot glue or melted plastic or whatever dilute the tank?

just stick a bit of the lettuce under the live rock so it stays there or use inert string to wrap it around something

what about the part that starts to decay under the rock before the worms get to it? its better to have it all in sight and reach. i have seen that method and tried it it doesnt work well and the fish usually rip it off and forget about the rest left under it.
