could someone tell me if i am sapose to tern off my tank lights at night,
i have been terning them off, but i have recently got some corals, im not sure if they need constant lighting.

sorry if its a silly question. thay wouldnt have lights in the sea, and it gets dark so i thought it wouldnt matter if i did turn them off.

just want to do i right

clare :)

10-12 hours of light is all corals need.

A cheap timer or two, depending on the type of lighting / number of plugs you have, and you'll be all set. We run our actinic bulbs (the blue ones) 13 hours a day and the daylight bulbs (the white ones) 9 hours per day. The actinics come on 2 hours before the daylights and stay on 2 hours after the daylights turn off. It creates a nice dawn / dusk effect, but is by no means required for corals or fish.

also if the corals were in low light before, make sure you introduce the stronger lighting slowly, probably doesnt involve you but if the coral was in NO flourecent and then suddenly put in MH light it will bleach i think. Im not sure how to introduce, your gonna need germanman or atnixon or another experianced member to help you with introducing.

What type of corals and what type and wattage of light?? You would need to leave a PC on much longer than a MH to sustane certin corals.
