LR question

No, that would be fine..The only thing you have to appreciate is that the base rock will take a good few months to become live..

The main thing that effects a cycle is the ammount of die-off that comes from the rock..

I agree.

However, in my HONEST opinion dead rock is the better way to go with a few pieces of Live rock rubble. It is better on the environment (not trying to sound like a environmentalist cause im not), Cheaper and it will be seeded by the live rock to become live rock with in time anyways. Save a few bucks and go with the dead rock. You can buy 50 lbs of it online for $44 plus whatever the shipping would be at www.petsolutions.com or www.ebay.com do a search for reef rock.

If you want an environmentalists opinion on anything, then pm me lol

it really doesnt matter as far as the environment. Most base rock you will buy (i believe even the stuff at petsolutions) was once actualy live rock. It just is dried. Most base rock that you buy is just dried live rock. I could be wrong, but reef bones' base rock may be made. But even a lot of made lr is still make out of onve reef materials such as crushed coral.

Bad idea!!!!!! At a 50/50 ratio it takes about 12 months for base rock to become fully live, now as you increase the amount of base roch you lenghten the timeline for having LR. I would suggest no more than 20-25% base and even then I do not like the idea, your LR and LS are the base of a marine or reef tank. Would you build your house foundation out of legos to save a few bux?? Same thing, if you can't afford to set up a tank properly then don't set it up, save untill you have the money to do it right.
