Lighting question. Bulbs actually. Help .. im pathetic.

I just got my Nova Extreme T5 Fixture and one of the bulbs was busted. I went to the LFS and got one and my lights won't light. It's a different brand (Arcadia) but its 54W 48 inch same size and everything. The brand that came with it is called Current. Why wouldn't this other bulb work?

I have the lights on now only running 1 54w bulb and the 2 blue lights are off.


Here's another question. How do I run these lights? The 2 white lights on for daylight about 9 - 11 hours and then the 2 blue lights for the other 13-15 hours???? All at the same time?? or do I run the White for 10 and the blue for 10 and then 4 hours off??? The instructions on Aquarium equipment are for shiite and they don't tell you anything that you would need to know.

Try turning both switches on, also make sure you have the bulb properly installed, some need to be turned a little to light up!!

What happens is the light starts to power up and then goes dead. Same with the other bulb attached to that switch. I tried rearanging them with all sorts of combinations and whichever bulb is on the switch with the one that I bought goes dead.

I would contact the manufacturer as it is either a switch or a ballast at this point.

I just got off the phone with drfostersmithjoneswebsterfoster.com and the lady said they are shipping one overnight on monday morning and I should get it on Tuesday.


What about the light running times? How should I set my timers? I have 2 whites, 2 blue, and 4 LEDs that seem to stay on all the time.

Personally and I know some will disagree but I would go a max of 10 hours with the blues, and 8 hours with the whites, turn the blues on an hour before white and off an hour after.

I think 8 and 6 would be better but you seem to lean towards a longer lighting cycle so that will be a good combermise at 8 and 10

So you run the blue and white at the same time?

For example.
8am blue on white off
9am blue on white on
5pm white off blue on
6pm blue off white off

or

8am white on
3pm blue on
4pm white off
1am blue off.
