I can't contain my excitement!!!

that fish is breeding material

I agree... if I was willing to invest myself in breeding bettas again, I would consider it. But it's expensive and time consuming stuff and I'm trying to go to college soon. He's only ever going to be a pretty little boy on my counter top.

Both a blessing (on my wallet) and a shame... ^__^;;

Though who knows? He's only 3-months old, so there's a chance I might go ahead with breeding him if I can gather the funds... and convince my boyfriend that I'm not out to turn our little apartment into a walk-thru aquarium. But if I did, we could always charge the neighbors a walk-thru fee, right?? *chuckles*

yeah make sure you send a baby betta to me :)

It's certainly a thought. :)

I'll contact the breeder and see if he has any non-related females that might go well with my male. He offered a female in the bid for an additional $12. If I can see photos and know she isn't ugly or another color... well, why not?

I can try my hand at breeding bettas one more time, right? :D

LOL..

I have several pairs of angels(not by design) rams(Bolivian) and discus..
all I do is leave em in their own tanks..at one point I was giving angels away to anyone who wanted them.

not so any more..

I will have to wait to invest in breeding them until I have my finace immigrated into the country. That paperwork is expensive! Until then, I'll probably invest in a nice female with good bloodlines in complimentary colors. We'll see when and what comes of it when I have the money to sit down and breed them.

It probably won't be for at least 6 months or so, which is good. It'll give them time to grow and mature and me time to set back money for the venture.

Bettas are, by far, NOT a 'sit and watch' kind of reproductive creature. You have to be very hands-on with their fry in order to have a decent clutch. Otherwise, you end up with 2-4 survivors out of a hatch of 300 eggs, which is quite saddening. And that's if you actually have survivors at all.

I would need a 5 or 10 gallon hatch tank, at least a 30-40 gallon tank for the resulting brood to grow in, and individual jars for the males to mature in. Then there's the cost of food, water conditioners, heating, and other necessary equipment.

It's a lot easier now to buy the necessary stuff, since I have online stores I can shop through now, but it's still a lot of money to invest for me at just this moment. Like I said, it will definitely be kept in mind for the future!

yeah, if you want i can try to hook you up with a profesional betta breeder that i met from another forum (he is a crazy betta breeder, 55 and 120 gallon grow out tank, 5 gallon tanks per male betta when they start to get agressive, on room dedicated to betta, this guy i think can teach you a lot).
