I need to know witch freshwater catfish is best for my new 50g I read a book that said bushy-nosed catfish but i'm not sure.

my fave type are salmon tale cats, but they are an australin native so im not sure if u caould get em over theere, if thats where u are., that is...

I have a bullhead in my 55 gal. It was definitly a good choice. I've never had such a playfull fish. It's also cool because I can feed it anyting from chicken liver to leftover minnows from when I go fishing.

.... but they grow quite large and are pretty aggressive/predatory.

do you mean a single, large catfish? a pictus catfish may work.

they do get big, mine is 11 inches. I neglected to say that I am eventually going to get a bigger tank for him. in two years or so.

Actually, bullheads don't get that big (compared to flathead, channel and blue cats). I think the IL state record for the smaller of the 2 we have is ~4#, which would be in the fat 12" - thin 16" range

Are there any other fish in the tank? A bullhead catfish would eat anything it could fit in its mouth....not to mention it will outgrow a 50g tank.

Could you list your stocking (or future stocking plans) for the tank?

Bushy/Bristlenose plecos are good catfish to have. They will eat algae and prefer to have driftwood in the tank. Most will hide, so you won't see them much.

There are alot of catfish that are nocturnal, so you won't see them much. Raphael catfish, Pictus catfish, and other plecos under about 6 inches would be good, but you won't see them too often.

Anything in particular you like?

I'd recommend a Pictus Cat....They have whiskers nearly as long as thier body, really cool looking.

Also only grow to around 6 inches so it wouldn't take up your entire tank.

By bushy-nose I'm guessing you mean a bristle-nose pleco?? That would work good in your tank also.
