Theres lots of posts on this one.

I've just finished treating Ich successfully. My success in curing it came under the following conditions:

1. raise temp to 84-86F
2. add salt at rate of one teaspoon per 4 litres. You have a 200l tank. You need 50 teaspoons of salt. You CANNOT add all this in at once. You need to add slowly over a period of 4-6 hours. DO NOT stick the salt directly into your tank, dilute in buckets of water first. My bucket is 10l, so I would remove 50l from your tank and add back in at one bucket per 1 1/2 hours with 10 teaspoons of salt fully diluted into the bucket. It is my personal recommendation that you add a bacterial agent to keep your filter going. Make sure you use water conditioner to remove Chlorine and Chloramide too.
3. after about 3-5 days, with luck the spots dissappear
4. this is the crucial stage, when the spots fall off the parasite will fall into the substrate, divide up to 200 times and then go back in the water to find fish and make more white spot
5. when the parasite is free floating the salt should kill it off
6. keep up the salt + heat levels for 2 weeks to be sure of clearing all parasites
7. act NOW before all your fish suffer
8. your plecs will suffer. They are scaleless and will be stressed by the salt. There is really nothing you can do about this. I lost one during my outbreak, better to lose one than the whole lot

Other things you may be interested in.

1. your stocking. The ratio should be 2 female guppies to one male. This will wear out the female. In about a Months time, after clear of Ich, buy 4 females.
2. IMO I would get more plants.

Hope this has been helpful?

2 weeks minimum, you can go for 3 weeks of the treatment to be safe.

what does the white spot look like..? does it look like salt sprinkled on the fish? or does the white spot look different..? can you describe the spot?
white spots can be ich or bacterial infection.
if ich you can try raising the temp and treatin as described(salt-hypersalinity)
if it is not ich..then you need to try and decide if it bacterial(do not raise the temp for bacterial infection unless the course of action requires it..higher heat can cause bacterial infections to spread in many cases)

what are your water parameters(ammonia, nitrite, nitrates) what i the temp of the tank? what is your maintenance schedule?

btw,,neon tetras are a bit sensitive to sme treatments for ich.

sorry its not ich my tank is ich free for now. im thinking it might be white spot maybe. or something else. i've looked at some pics of ntd and have ruled that out.

I'm a bit confused, I thought Ich was the same as White Spot...am i missing something here guys?

Ich is called white spot disease. However, there are lots of diseases that come in the forum of white spot. Its the presentation of the white spots that depicts what disease you actaully have..:)

If yur fish looks as tho it has been salted with a salt shaker, it is ich. If it has a white fluffy spot it is most likely fungus, etc...

is it a creamy white spot?

so it depends on whether you've got salt, creamy spot or a big bit of fluff...I would say the creamy and the fluff would be beterr off with the fungal meds rather than white spot salt treat then?

Salt will generally cure these afflictions as well...Yes, you could use some antifungal drugs..
