So, I've been quarantining some fish to go into my newly setup 29g tank, while my 55g goes fallow for a while.

My two clowns are in there, and doing quite nicely.

I bought a watchman goby because i stuck in about 5 inches of live sand, and I always wanted a little sand sifter

And yesterday, I was in the petstore, and this little pygmy hawkfish kept watching me, so i picked him up, too.

Well, yesterday afternoon I was walking by my little 10g qt tank, and I noticed something was awry. I put a small animal type mesh lid on top of the tank to keep the fish in. I've heard hawkfish can be jumpers, so...

Well, the lid was lying on the ground by the tank. The goby was nowhere in sight.

Then, I hear a slight purr coming from across the room, and the cat is sitting on our stairs, licking a significantly wet paw.

Poor goby...

Sucks, too, since I REALLY liked that little guy...even though he was only with me for about a day.

:(

it seriously sucks when you read something like this...It one of them scenario's..what do you do? shout and give the cat a stern talking too? lol....it would look at you, think whatever, and walk away.....well, my cat would anyway....

Sorry for the loss...are you going to buy another one?

Niko

Yeah, I think so...but i'm going to wait until my other 3 fish are done in the qt tank so the guy can get my full attention.

Although I did read today that watchman goby are notoriously hard to keep in captivity...

Wow,,I hate that for you.Sounds so much like something my cats would do.I am trying to get them to understand the top of the tank is not a place to sit but they could care less what I think. One of my cats is deaf so unless she sees me she wont run when I come in room and she is on top the tank.
I love goby's myself, and I hope if you do get another one,the kitty wont like it as well as he did the first..

I have a pink spotted watchman goby, and he is very hardy! He picked even picked up ick from a dottyback (qt lesson learned the hard way!!) and survived. He looked awful and I did not expect him to make it, but he pulled through. He has a ton of personality and I couldn't imagine my tank without him. The dottyback was not so lucky....

Sorry to hear your bad news! Our new kitty loves to sit on a bar stool next to our tank and watch the fish. I have a canopy on my tank, and hope that keeps the kitty out.

Keep us posted if you get a new one.

Oh I love gobies...guess your cat did too. You're not having any luck this last week or so! Sorry about that.

Which kind of watchman goby was it? Some really are easier than others.
