Need info on angels...

I have to agree that a single gourami is going to cause trouble as they seem to get bored and angels are nice targets. That's why I always put at least a pair or even a trio of gouramis.

IME if you raise young angels with cardinals, they won't eat them when they are adults.

that article said one pair of angels could be housed in a 15gal???? Could I put one pair in a 20gal high??

I had a pair in a 15 show that spawned like clockwork. I had an assortment of other fish in there with them as well. 20 high would be sufficient for a pair and some friends.

I might think that was ok if they were the only fish in the tank, strictly and it was being used for breeding purposes. As always, water parameters would also need close monitoring.

I agree a pair will work in a 20 high. As with any larger cichlid in a smaller tank, keeping a divider handy might be necessary.

I keep angels and have several spawning pairs. I would not recommend more than 5-7 angels in a 55. 2 pairs can be housed in a 55
angels tend to need approx 10 gal per adult angel(good rule of thumb)
if you house too many in too small of a space you may run into stunting issues.

I did see the results of keeping 4 raised in a 30..these fish were teice tha age of my angels yet half the size.

pair can be kept in a community setting if there is enough room and areas to spawn. they will usually not be very successful at spawning.

there are, of course, exceptions to the rule.

currently I have domestic scalare and wild scalare(Peruvian) pairs.

of the wilds I have 1 male that I would be very hesitant to place with any other angels except the chosen female. I keep my pairs in a 29.

that said if you decide to push the stocking levels just make sure you are up on the water changes.

always keep an eye on the fish. if you decide to have a high stock level this will increase the chance of pairs forming and also may increase aggression in the tank. you may want to consider removing the pairs or the targets.
I have list a few angels when pairs formed and odd fish were targeted as threats.

I just picked up a pair of angels last night (not sure on sex). will they be ok with a pleco 5 red wag platties and 4 black mollies in a 55g moderatly planted?

Should i pick up another pair soon before they take over?

You could possibly get a pair if you added two more. You could always trade the other two if they did pair and became aggressive, but IME they shouldn't. Watch the mollies and platties to be sure they aren't fin nipping.

But 2 of them should be ok otherwise?
