Resurection of a 75 Gallon Tank: Advice Needed

If it is safe to use as an aquarium and you want to sanitize it with bleach, I would recommend using 1 part bleach to 19 parts water. This will be just enough bleach to get it in good condition. Then of course, rinse, rinse, and rinse again till you no longer smell the bleach. Everything should be good to go from there.

If I used bleach, would air drying get rid of the fumes? Or does it need rinsed over and over?

air dry I am talking at least a week btw.

Rinse - Rinse - Rinse, until theres no odor.......:)

I got another question...

can you use wood from outside (like fallen branches or trees) as drift wood in a fish tank? If so... how would you go about making it safe for a fish tank?

I have woods behind my house... if the whether is nice this weekend I may go back there and look..

I would measure this thickness of the glass to make sure it's an aquarium. 75 gallons is a lot of water to clean up!

ideally no. but you can. however it does mean that you will have to find a non rotten peice, then soak it an keep scrubbing it until there are no loose bits, bits dont fall off anymore and its finished soaking

If you have any trouble with mineral deposits on the outside you can try car finish compound. It worked great for me but I'd be cautious about using it on the inside. When you think your done cleaning it up, fill it with water and dry the outside. Examine every inch of glass and make sure you got all you can because once it's in place and full of water you may not want to drain it.

I know. It happened to me. Had to break it all down. Not fun.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will know for sure what all needs to be done on Friday. I plan on cleaning it out, cleaning it with bleach, and rinsing it. I may go ahead and re-silicone it this weekend. Or I may fill it half way and see if it even leaks periods.

I actually went to the petstores today to actually see what reptile tanks are like... I am 99% sure the tank I have is NOT a reptile tank. Those babies have some thin *** glass lol. I will make sure though.

JRR wrote a great article on this how to properly prep wood, but I can't seem to find the link... I saved it in a notes file. JRR can you resend that link for dbcb?
