What kind of crab is this?

ok your going to have to do this the old fashion way. iv caught many crabs this way in the ocean. its called a drop line lol. simply tie a big piece of food to a string and when he grabs it pull it up very slowly. your going to have to do it in the dark. crabs in the ocean are just as dumb (or smart) as yours. might as well try it. it only takes 2 seconds.
if this doesnt work tank a metal barbicue scwer and jam it into the hole he lives in... tehn stick him in some lemon juice and put him on the grill

I say take the rock out too, no need to kill the li'l guy though. Jam another rock, or object, in the LR's place. I've tried this before- see about 2/3 of the way down titled, Helpful Tips for Controlling Unwanted Pests:

It may be a pain with the rock but you won't have to worry about your zoas anymore and trying to catch him for days on end. I'd just make sure he has some sort of new home waiting for him. :) http://www.liveaquaria.com/general/general.cfm?general_pagesid=59

I just put a new starfish in earlier today. After checking on him a few minutes ago to make sure the acclimation worked, I see my pest crab attacking the starfish and pulling him into his cave. So it's plan be, EVERYTHING is now coming out until I find this guy. I've pulled most of the rock out now, but the water is so murky I can't see. So I'm giving it a few minutes to clear up.

maybe you could have put a large hose, like one for a dryer, up to the hole, so the only way out was through the hose. secured it to something with string... and then put bait at the end of the hose. eventually he'd come out, into the hose, because he won't see you or anything else, he'll still feel like he's enclosed. once he's in the hose, pull the hose out, or block his door.

SUCCESS!

It took all night, mostly because I had to wait for the dust to settle so I could see what I was doing. But I finally got this little *******, and I didn't even have to kill him. Now my tank is a wreck...

Kudos to you for being more stubborn than the crab  . Too bad you had to wreck your tank but at least your corals have a fighting chance now without the little bugger feasting at will.

Nice, congrats! Hehe, you'll tank will look good again in no time and now your headache is over. Where's the troublemaker now?

Congratulations on catching the little sucker!! Looking on the bright side at least now you can make any aquascaping changes that you wanted to do (and if you didn't it'll make you feel better if you pretend you did!!!):grinyes:
