Delawhere?
I would like to get my F pearl a buddy. Any reason I shouldn't do prophylactic treatment for ich with heat and salt while he is in QT?

Baba-bump!

I usually try to keep the temperature up slightly above normal on my quarantine tank, and then add the salt once/if the fish shows signs of ich.

i don't usually add anything special to my qt... depending on the fish source i might be inclined to add a half dose of salt.. but if the fish is not showing any signs of illness i wouldn't treat him with anything, it would just stress him out for no reason.

I don't do anything out of the ordinary when fish are in QT. I just keep an eye on them and watch for problems.

No. I will buy a fish and put it in QT before putting it in my main tank. If it can take 3 weeks for ich to show, why wait? I feel sorry for fish that hang out in a barren tank alone--that's enough to make it ill!

unless the fish is showing signs of a disease, don't treat it.

don't fix it till it's broken! do you take painkillers if you 'think' you might get a headache? or cold medicine if youve been exposed but don't show any symptoms? same thing here. there is no need to unnecessarily stress a fish out because waiting for the ich to appear is inconvenient for YOU.

I do treat fish for parasites when I QT them
I learned from breeders and importers it is a good precaution
many times fish will carry parasites ..the relationship is symbiotic..the parasite needs th host to live so i doesn't kill the host.
however, stress may change the paramters and the parasites may get the upper hand on the host.
I do not treat for bacterial infections unless they show signs of bacterial infection.

however, I do not treat for ich unless this particular parasite shows itself.
