MTS rescape for my 50gal

Very cool. I've been doing a lot of research on MTS. Seems to be the way to go. I think ill be doing the same in my new 75g. Good to know it can be ordered online if you don't want to spend the time making it yourself. Everything looks good so far. Flora and fauna plans? Keep us updated on how it all works out.

Heres my current plant list, if thats what you're wondering, and as soon as the lights come on i'll toss up a pic of the water once its all clear, and Wednesday or Thursday I should be finishing up the planting and adding driftwood.

The picture of your plants sitting in the cooking utensils reminds me of a picture I have somewhere of rocks I was boiling for my 75. Yeah, my wife won't let me do that anymore...

Actually funny thing is...I've used those two **** pots so frequently on my tank that my wife gave up on them and has donated them to the cause lol. But yeah...cleaning last night...very hard :silly:

Lights are on so i got some pictures of the water now that its clear.


Looks decent, probably gonna need until tomorrow to be totally kosher, also note I have some of the old substrate in a nylon on the right side by the filter to make sure i don't have to totally re-cycle



This one i'm proud of. I've been wanting to do this ever since i saw this rock in my LFS, its indented there and filled with sand so i planted some microsword on it. hopping it'll fill in the sand on top of the cave

Adding a hood

So, I decided that with the black on black motif i finally needed to get a hood worked out. I couldn't bring myself to buy one so I went to ace and got...


Constructed the wood frame.




Covered with aluminum sheet ($1.50 a foot)


Managed to smash my thumb at this point...it filled me with great joy.


Great and glorious success is mine!

I can't help myself...with the lights off and after dark...I'm literally giddy at how well this worked out.




I set up a 3rd cannister CFL to give the tank 3 dimensional light...thoughts?
