Can anyone tell me which lake this one comes from? It is the only one that has horizontal stripes while all the rest in my tank have vertical so just curious if he is from a different lake. Thanks!

It has always had horizontal stripes, even when I bought it. Is the horizontal stripes why you think he looks stressed??

Johanni have horizontal and vertical stripes due to hybridization and impure strains that are common in the hobby. I say stress because of the pale coloration. They should be a deep navy on the stripes and a blue-blue on the rest of the body. He just looks pale, but that is likely due to the ammonia levels in your tank as well as him being younger

Oh okay thanks! Today he seems fine (that pic was taken when the ammonia was still really high.) He is out moving around and swimming. They all actually seem a lot more active today compared to yesterday.

So do you think he looks better now? His color has completely changed (a lot of black) is this good or bad?

Oh wow ya! He's definitely settled and looks like he might end up being the boss of that tank. His color is amazing right now.
