EDIT: Dumb autocorrect, I meant 'LID' not 'KID' (I don't know how to fix the title)

I just recently purchased a 40 gallon long tank for my goldfish but like most tanks you have to buy a top separately. It's split down the middle so it would fit two lids. I measured it and it would need two lids 23 inches by 11 and a quarter inches each. I may have to find someone to custom make one for me because I'm not finding any that seem be the right size. I measured the inner lip part where the lid is supposed to fit into. I could use any and all help please and thanks!

Note: the water is still being acclimated, my goldfish is still in his 20 gallon in another room- and I checked, that lid won't fit this tank.

I believe what you need is two 24" lids, like for a 20g high. Check the dimensions here, Versa-top and marineland. They come with the customizable back strip that you can trim to fit front to back better (or to run hoses through and such). Just make sure you get the side to side size right. According to your measurements I believe the marineland will fit best.

I'll keep that in mind! Thank you! I'll check the pet stores around me and see if they carry 24 inch lids!

24" is not going to set it the top frame correctly. The dimensions you give are just standard 55g tank glass lids. Apparently your tank has the same footprint as a 55g (48" x 12"), it's just not as tall. You get two of them like this: They're ~23" x 11".

I agree with Joel, sounds like a 55g size lid (although I was expecting pics of children, lol)

Measure carefully, there are a couple different size/brands that "might" fit. Some have slightly wider rims IFAIR. Maybe I just have some very old & newer tanks...no need for custom.

Knowing who made the tank will make it easier... buy lids for a 55g tank, made by the same folks.. they should fit.

Or just have some glass cut to the correct size and leave a little opening in the front for feeding.
