How do you remove hose attachments?

I finally broke down and cleaned out the gunky hoses for my Rena xp3 filter, but I've forgotten how to remove those little plastic ties that hold the hose on the attachment to the filter. Can they be reused or do I have to cut then off?

You need to push the 2 ends in separate directions, one up and one down and they will slip away from each other. Hard to explain
