New African Tank

I've always wanted to keep an eel. I've decided to get a Rope fish, which isn't an eel but hey close enough. I'm trying to come up with different ideas for roommates for the fish. I was hoping someone could help me come up with some ideas for schooling fish that come from Africa maybe also a bottom feeder.

Currently I have my heart set on the Rope fish and an African Butterfly fish. Think this will work?

I was also thinking of synodontis but my tank is only 50g.
