Air stone not filling completely with air

Air stones I've used eventually get so restrictive, they'll ruin the air pump, so they need to be changed out every so often.
Try to blow through a well used one compared to a new one. I dunno if it's contaminates in the air that plug them or components in the water, but either/or take their toll.
