54 Gal corner filtration

I bought this setup because I got a great deal at Petsmart, $179 for tank, stand, led lights, glass hood. I had a coupon and some rewards to use, it was on sale for $269. Right now I'm using 2 Penguin bio-wheel 200 filters that I had spare. Seem to be working great and keeps the water clear. I was just wondering what filter do others use on their corner aquariums? I've been thinking of changing.

I was just messaging with someone who said I should get a Cascade canister if I switch.

In terms of hang-on-back style, I only like Aquaclear, but that's not to say others don't serve their purpose. An aquaclear 110 would be a great filter for this application.

For canisters, all the name brands are good, even some off brands.

I've had great luck with my Sunsun 302 canisters and my Marineland C360.

My preference is 2 types of filtration on each tank.

I have two AC 70’s on my 60 gal, and an AC 110 and 70 on my one 75 gal, I love them. But I couldn’t get the 70’s to sit correct on this 54 corner, and the 110 was way too long for the glass good to close. I have a spare 110 and a 70, still stored away.

Probably an ideal candidate for a canister then, given the configuration of the top rim and cover. If you do like bubbles or plan to run an air line into the tank, a sponge filter as a backup could be an option. Lots of smaller internal filters available too.

Assuming it isn't drilled, and is currently dry, I'd say it would be an awesome candidate for a mattenfilter in the corner, you could move the water through it however you wanted,.

I would do either a canister or a mattenfilter. Honestly I would probably choose mattenfilter ran with a powerhead as this is perfect for a corner setup. Depends on stocking and plants too.

you could run a canister filter with the intake behind the foam, and then you would have the flexibility of the return rather than something that would go through the foam.

I’m sure I’m changing to a canister soon. I had decided to use the two Penguins when I set it up because I wanted to make use of what I already had on hand. Thanks everyone for the good input.
