    Java moss, how to use?

Just pull it apart. Any tiny piece that may break off will grow. The thinner you spread it (if you're really patient, strand by strand) on whatever, the nicer it ends up. If you tie it in a clump it will still grow but will just grow into a clumpier clump. Keep checking your grocery store...

Help! Parasite problem in fishless planted aquarium

Ah, split end tail. Copepod, perhaps. Lots of different kinds of those, too. I only have microscopic ones.

    Fish for 2.5 Gallon?

Heterandria formosa, very tiny livebearers. plus they don't even really need a heater, which is good cause then it wouldn't be taking up even more room inside the tank. The only trouble is finding them, they are not usually in stores, but if you have a local aquarium society there is likely...

Help! Parasite problem in fishless planted aquarium

There are many organisms in any aquarium that aren’t visible to the naked eye. You just happen to have something big enough that you can actually see. Neither your jumpy bugs nor the planaria are parasites. A couple possibilities, look up pics and info: Ostracod – approx 1 mm long...

Do you think that if a Chinese Algae eater grows up living with other fish, it..?HELP

I've always loved Sam, my CAE. I was very saddened when I first came online and found out how much other people hated them and the problems they had with them. It could just the temperment of the individual fish - like some bettas can be kept in a community tank and others can not. Also read...

    Salt treatment for curing ich?

I have treated a tank with corys, 2 tsp salt per gallon, for 3 weeks, and they were just fine, lively as ever. Long term constant use is where problems arise. girl920, you are correct that although the kisser is the only one with spots, your whole tank is already infected. You are also...

    Plant Quarantine?

Did you read whole article I pointed to? He explains perfectly why people believe there is spontaneous outbreaks, so I'm not going to repeat what he said clearly and better than I can.

    parasites on new plants?

I think you're now going to have a hard time totally eradicating the snails. You can keep picking them out and/or try putting in lettuce leaves at night – in the morning, supposedly, they’ll be covered with snails and you can pull that whole thing out. Some people don’t mind snails. But I...

    Whisper 10 Betta Safe?

I just set up a 5 gallon betta tank with an AquaClear mini ('20' now I guess)... I put a Maxi-Jet sponge over the intake. You could cut and fit your own sponge and I have done that in another tank, but this just looks nicer. These sponges come with a center X slit down its length, work really...

    parasites on new plants?

small "globs" of white dots in a clear clump are snail eggs What does the other stuff look like that makes you believe it is a parasite? Crawling little white things? Planaria or something else, maybe but not parasites. Can you give a better description on size, colour, movement, etc.

    gelatinous sludge?

What kind of filter on the tank? Are you injecting CO2? Is there any water movement at the surface? I find water movement is the answer - you have to balance it if you're injecting CO2 for plants. I'm not so I don't have to worry so much. Nothing waterfallish - I just make sure there's...

    Low nitrates, what to do?

Good suggestion. I was making too much at a time and it got ugly, there were scuzzy bits growing in the bottle. Now I just mix up enough to last me a couple weeks but I don't refrigerate, although mine's in the basement and it's cooler down here.
