Three years is a good lifespan for a betta, imo. Go ahead and treat yourself to a nice betta. This one petco near me has been getting very fancy plakat bettas lately - dragons, double-tail plakats, halfmoon plakats, etc.

+1 on drip acclimation. Used it on fish received from clear across the country just recently. I've also used it on a bunch of the bettas I've imported from Thailand as well without problems. Don't use prime though, but it sounds like good advice.
