Awesome. If you're ever in the North East, try and stop by the Baltimore, Maryland aquarium. They had the most freshwater exhibits of all the aquariums I've gone to so far.

It could just be bad stock. Are you getting them from the same lfs? Also, don't rule out an aggressor. It could just be that your two surviving cories have learned to avoid the offender in your tank.

CPDs could work.

The large fry you see were fed live baby brine shrimp from the second week on with large daily water changes.

Do Queen James and Dwyane Wade count, even though they're athletes? I actually like Bosh though, despite thinking that he's overrated. He comes off as very well spoken and down to earth during interviews.

Finally got my camera back this weekend. Here's the finished product with the tank running for roughly a month and a half now. Stocking includes two gold marble angelfish, 3 female bettas (all sisters), and a trio of guppies. Plants are a mix of fake and real, with the real being anubias and hygro.

Picked up this spotted climbing perch yesterday. Mine's only about 1.5" - 2" but they supposedly get to about 6 - 8" and should make a good centerpiece specimen for a 55g. I've been told they like to hide, but mine seems to enjoy coming out and about in my planted tank. I'm not too sure about...

My petco sells them for ~$3 each. For some reason the ABNs seem more common in my area and the regular ones are harder to come by.

Stuff like this always seems to happen to me too. It's the reason why I have so many "dirty fish tank water only" buckets. meh. They're about $2.50 at walmart so I just buy a new one.

I use the Walmart "Great Value" brand - costs about 48 cents for 26 oz. The only ingredients are salt and calcium silicate. No clue what calcium silicate is, but it hasn't caused any problems whatsoever at 3 tbsp per gallon.

It may or may not work, depending on the bettas' personalities. You have a much better shot using females that have been raised together and never been separated. It's my theory that once separated, even female bettas learn to be aggressive and territorial. They're much more docile when kept...

I agree, frequent water changes are a must. Remember, fish can survive days while being transported in tiny bags without any water changes. Comparatively, your fish have the upper hand. I'd be more concerned with saving the beneficial bacteria in your filters, actually.

i actually have two juvie angels and two female bettas in the same tank right now without problems. They keep to themselves mostly. The female bettas are sisters raised together since birth, however.
